For the Public
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by differences in social communication and interaction, together with restricted, repetitive interests and behaviors. Signs usually become apparent in early childhood and vary in form and degree from person to person.
Early diagnosis and evidence-based early intervention are among the most important factors that positively influence the development of children with autism and the quality of life of their families. If signs such as lack of eye contact, not responding to one’s name, limited pointing and joint attention, or delayed language development are noticed, consulting a child and adolescent mental health professional is recommended.
Be cautious of “miracle treatment” claims lacking scientific evidence; assessment and intervention plans should always be developed together with qualified professionals.
